Positive: The location is fantastic and the home is beautiful and spacious, making it a very comfortable stay for six people. We loved our walks to the beach and watching the sunset from the balcony.

Negative: Unfortunately, the house was not clean, and the explanation of a new cleaning team does not excuse the condition we found it in. There was thick dust on furniture and lamps, visible spider webs and spiders in many corners, and the dustbin was dirty when we arrived. The floors appeared to be swept only where visible. Under the furniture and couches was extremely dirty (couches covered in old, dirty blankets), which became very noticeable as we were travelling with a toddler who was crawling and exploring the floors. The upstairs balcony was covered in dry bird droppings and clearly had not been swept for days, possibly weeks. Outdoor furniture, was also dirty and sticky. The kitchen lacked many basic utensils, and the oven tripped the power when used above 200 degrees, which also affected the geyser and resulted in NO hot water. There was also some misleading information in the listing. A coffee machine is listed but not available, and bathrobes are mentioned for the bedrooms but were not provided. While there is a dishwasher, no dishwasher pods were supplied, not even for the first day. One bedroom has air conditioning, but there was no remote provided. The upstairs shower was blocked, causing water to overflow out of the shower basin. We also arrived to find a broken lamp in one of the rooms, which we did notify the host about. Only half a roll of toilet paper was provided in the bedrooms. While we understand that this is a self-catering property, it is extremely common and widely accepted practice in South Africa to provide a basic starter pack such as tea, coffee, sugar, milk and extra toilet paper. These small touches make arrival easier before guests can get to the shops and help create a true home away from home experience. Cleanliness and basic amenities are essential. We have travelled extensively and stayed in many self-catering properties, so our expectations are standard. While the property and location are beautiful, we would most likely not return.
